Vieux Farka Toure is the self-titled debut by the son of two-time Grammy™ winning Malian guitarist Ali Farka Toure. Vieux sings and plays guitar beautifully, as well as demonstrating his skills as a composer. Vieux is accompanied by a number of West African musicians, notably Grammy™ winner Toumani Dibate on kora.
The album also features two songs of Vieux playing alongside Ali Farka Toure. Famously stubborn, Ali discouraged his son from pursuing a career in music but eventually relented, blessing the album and his son's blooming career. These father and son performances are among Ali's last work: the master guitarist passed away in early 2006. Thankfully, Vieux Farka Toure will keep Ali's musical legacy alive.
